Some of my late night fanfiction musings

So I’ve always had a soft spot for reading fanfiction with Rose in Human Nature/Family of Blood, especially after reading In Human Hands (best. fanfiction. ever.) and I’ve noticed something that seems to happen a lot in fanfictions like that.  A lot of the time, the author simply writes the story exactly how it happens, and just inserts Rose’s name into the story in replace of Martha’s.  And I’ve been realizing that it’s annoying me.  First, if I wanted to experience those episodes exactly as they are, I would just watch them instead of reading them.  Second, how the Doctor treats and acts around each of his companions is so different, therefore I would think that his alter ego would interact differently with each of the companions. Therefore, he wouldn’t treat Rose the same way he treated Martha in those episodes.  If Rose had been there, the story would have been completely different.  I think she still would have been a maid, but their interactions would have been completely different because the Doctor and Rose interacted completely different than the Doctor and Martha.  Neither is better or worse, they’re just different.

 Also, I don’t like how most of the fanfictions with that storyline go the route of having John Smith and Rose have sex after their first kiss.  Honestly, that is so out of character for Rose.  She would never cheat on the Doctor like that (even though he looks the same, he is a completely different man).  

Well, sorry if that doesn’t make any sense but it’s 2:30 AM here and I’ve been reading too much bad fanfiction.  Why are all the great ones abandoned or only updated, like, every 6 months?  Seriously, I’d be the happiest girl alive if only In Human Hands was ever finished.

Rose Marion Tyler, you know he is not “real”/not really himself/not the Doctor but in the Doctor’s body, what what what are you doing, this is not consent

yeah maybe John Smith thinks this is a great idea but YOU KNOW JOHN SMITH IS NOT A REAL PERSON or at the very least is a dude “borrowing” someone else’s body aughhhh

Anyway bb once again you speak to my soul re: fanfic. I don’t get the point of “series 3 with Rose!” fics if they’re just going to run a find/replace on the name “Martha”, and Human Nature/Family of Blood is a big one for this especially because it’s SO popular as a fic trope but so often makes very little sense when adapted.

I think Human Nature/Family of Blood is one of the most interesting series 3 stories to imagine Rose in. Rose was uh… not good at being patient. In School Reunion, she was pretty tetchy after being a dinner lady for THREE DAYS. I do not think she would have handled being a maid for months on end very well.
