‘I don’t mind Rose/Doctor fans at all. But their elitist attitude is the one thing I hate more than anything else. The Doctor has lived eleven different lives now. Rose may have changed him for the better, but don’t you think one of the other eight previous Doctors had someone who did the same for them? She’s not the first person whose changed his life. He said himself that he’s never met a person who wasn’t important.’
Oh god yes. The Doctor has lived and loved for over 900 years. That’s over 40 companions. Series 2 their relationship got creepy and co-dependent. JUST SAYING.
This is all true. Most fans are nice, but still- Equal playing field for companions. Thankies. And Crystal, those are the exact sentences I would use and why I don’t ship it, and can’t believe more people haven’t noticed.
Kudos to Jackie Tyler.Elitist attitude… what the hell. Seems to me like these confessions are just an excuse to bash other fans who disagree with you. I don’t know a single Rose fan who thinks she’s the only one who changed the Doctor. But Rose was important, so important that he nearly committed suicide when she was taken from him. And yeah, that’s a TERRIBLE thing, but it wasn’t framed like it was some heroic, romantic act—he was lost and Donna saved him.
They were co-dependent, yes, and even in S1—I mean, spare me the crap. But that was one of their flaws, and one that ended up giving the Doctor and Rose a lot of development during their separation—that they could be apart, that they could go on, and that there was life outside of their love.
If you don’t like it, fine, but don’t bash all fans—we’re not all the same person, we have different opinions.
I honestly don’t know a single Rose/Doctor shipper says that either, Cate. In fact, I’m ridiculously tired of everyone assuming that Rose/Doctor shippers hate all the other companions, and refuse to ship the Doctor with anyone else, and don’t acknowledge that the Doctor has loved before Rose (Romana? Susan’s Grandmother?) and will love again. It’s stupid. I’m sure there are some shippers who feel this way, but the vast majority of us don’t, so stop lumping everyone together. We don’t all hate Martha because she came after Rose (Martha Jones is Flawless), we don’t all hate Donna because she’s ginger (sorry, I can’t even think of a legitimate reason for Rose/Doctor shippers to hate Donna), we don’t all hate Amy for kissing the Doctor, we don’t all hate Rory or the Master for
having so much sexual tension with the Doctorfor being important to the Doctor, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WE DO NOT ALL HATE RIVER for being in love with the Doctor. So just stop it. We’re not all the same. Rose might be our favourite companion, but we also love all the companions too! Elitist is one thing that the Doctor/Rose fandom is not. In fact, I’ve honestly never met such nice and welcoming people. One or two fanatics don’t an elitist fandom make, my friends.
Also, the fact that we only talk about Doctor/Rose doesn’t mean that we don’t acknowledge past or future relationships. It just means we don’t care enough about them to discuss them. So… yeah. Sorry that I’m only really interested in Doctor/Rose when it comes to his romantic relationships? It doesn’t mean I think Rose was the only person he ever loved or ever will love. It just means it’s the only one I particularly care about.
And yeah, loving Rose and shipping Doctor/Rose does not mean I don’t love other companions. I LOVE Martha and Donna to pieces. I honestly haven’t seen this supposed “elitist” attitude in other Doctor/Rose shippers, but maybe I’m just hanging out around the right people.
